The heat is on this month, so aside from managing irrigation, gardens are best enjoyed rather than tended. Still, keep an eye on plants' water needs and make certain irrigation systems are in tip-top shape. Also take steps now to protect your home and family from mounting danger from wildfires. In just a few weeks, summer will fade to fall and gardeners will go back to work.  Meanwhile, don't work up a sweat; instead enjoy all summer gardens have to offer – bountiful produce, armfuls of flowers and entertaining under the sun and stars.
